Hmm.. a case of overhyping? Was really looking forward to this movie because of one name - Steven Spielberg.
Generally it was not a bad movie, just that.. it has too many annoying/unlikable characters, heck it even managed to make Tim Robbins unlikable for me (which is rare, cos I've always loved Tim no matter what role he was in).
I guess it probably wanted to show just how stupid humans can become upon facing such world-ending scale of catastrophy as depicted in the movie.
*** SPOILER ahead!!! ***
And the ending.. it's probably the best they could come up with seeing how they set up the enemy in the movie to be of so much more technological advanced and so absolutely over-powering to us until there was little hope to survive, much less defeating the aliens.
But the cheesy thing was not how the alien was defeated, but how the family seemingly got re-united in the end! Heck, even those 2 grandfather and grandmother also survived! I mean, I can understand Tom Cruise's character dodging miraculously all those shiny death-beams from the cool-looking tripods, but how in the world did the pregnant wife and the poor old father/mother-in-laws dodged them?
Well, think of it this way, at least it had a happy ending, so that after all those shots of the scary red/blood-vines terraformed eerie landscapes and the many hopeless scenarios presented in the course of the alien invasion, we can smile again, cos the family still got re-united in the end! Yay for us humans!
Ok ok, it wasn't so bad, afterall the movie is really about the invasion part and not how it ends. Still.. WHERE THE HELL IS THE FREAKINGLY COOL MOTHERSHIP??

Batman Begins
Never paid much attention to or particularly liked Christian Bale..
Was thinking that this new Batman outing was gonna be sucky from the trailer when it just came out..
But.. after reading all the rave reviews and watching the movie itself, I discovered a new found love for the man behind the bat.
To think that I used to be not so hot with Christian Bale's look sounds kinda absurd now, cos after seeing him donning the Dark Knight's suit, made me want to have his action figures! He's way too manly and cool in the movie and for that we have the director to thank for :-)
There are so many darn-how-cool-is-that scenes in the movie I sorta lost count, i.e. the Batmobile (yes, I love this buggie!), the classic silhouette of Batman with his long draping knight cape standing on top of some skyrise building at night, the bat sky gliding, the bat come a swooping or is it a tornado neat o' trick, the upside down hanging without getting caught in his own cape stunt, etc..
I think I really shouldn't need to write how good it is, cos the same message has basically been conveyed by countless other reviews: Get the DVD! And the action figures! :-P

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Attended a free early preview of this movie, was kinda convenient cos I would have went to watch this movie anyway even if I didn't get the free tickets, being the super big SF fan boy that I am, haha.
I have never really read the book before, only got a few glimpses during my past numerous visits to the bookstore. All I knew was that it has a wacky sense of humour mixed with big dozes of crazy imagination. I mean, planet factory? I would have never thought of that! Seriously!
Ok, back to the movie..
Stepping into the cinema, I wasn't really sure what to expect from this movie other than good cinematic fun, and that was exactly what I got after coming out of the cinema.
The movie might be a bit slow and boring at some points when I couldn't follow what the characters are saying or trying to joke about, but there were moments when I would be genuinely humoured or affected sentimentally, which were usually the parts regarding love, but maybe its just me though, haha! Well, what can I say, I'm a soft-hearted guy :-P
And I must mention the cast, for I'm rather fond of them, especially the guy who plays Arthur and the girl who plays the love interest of Arthur (sorry can't recall her character name!).
I took an instant liking towards the actor that plays Arthur, cos he reminds me of Tom Hanks, with their similiar qualities like good looking (to me at least :-)), charismatic, comical-and-yet-still-able-to-look-cute face, a sense of innocence and playfulness (hope I'm using the right words, lol).
As for the cute female lead, she actually reminds me of Meg Ryan and Sean Young, such sweet looking and full of youthful energy.
The rest of the casts, other than the robot guy getting slightly annoying sometimes with his neverending depression, are quite ok and fun to watch.
If I can get the chance to watch this movie again, I would gladly go ahead and do so, if not for some of its awe-inspiring scenes of wonders in the imaginary universe and politically correct dialogs, then for the cute actor who plays Arthur! And yes, I gotta have the DVD!

Denied
Q: What feels worse than having your love for someone being rejected by him/her?
A: You rejecting the love of someone whom you think really deserves your love, but somehow you just couldn't love him/her due to one simple reason - "You do not choose who you love".

Mr. & Mrs. Smith
Watched this movie just for the two strikingly beautiful lead actor/actress of none other than Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
As expected, the plot was just there to link up the many cool stunts/jokes the filmmaker has in store for us, the eager 'star-gazers' :-) And boy did they deliver! I lost track of how many super-cool-stunts done by the lead couple on screen, all the while exchanging snide remarks between each other and still be able to look great after all the dirty actions.
All in all, a really fun romp/feel good flick, just perfect for a Friday after-work watch, although I did wonder at many points why this film which seemingly glorify the 'assasin' profession got through our National Scissors in the first place :-P

The Interpreter
Watched this movie just for Nicole Kidman! She's such a sight to behold in her OL look, LOL.
Strange thing is I never knew she has such lovely face back then when I watched Top Gun, in fact I didn't even know who she was until recent years when she seemingly popped out of nowhere into Hollywood A-list actress stardom.
Anyway I'm addicted to her movies nowadays, cos she has both great looks and great acting, just like the other famous Aussie actor, the notorious Mr. Crowe!
One surprise from this movie though, for the first time I found myself sexually attracted to Sean Penn! Hmm, must be due to that manly/cool/grieving/protective character of his in the movie :-P
