Lost In Translation

Getting this DVD was a no brainer, heck it won awards, what more reasons to get it? Hehe..

Anyway I have postponed watching this flick for quite some time, cos I know it probably isn't a feel-gooder, its probably something artsy and with deep philosophical meanings behind.. something I'd only watch on certain days when I don't mind spending some brain juice digesting whatever message the movie wishes to deliver lol.

Previous to watching this movie, I did already have some good impression of the movie. First of all is it's very catchy music theme, first caught my attention during the many 'scoring' moments in some awards presentation event. Then its also the wonderful actor Bill Murray and the fact that the movie is based in Japan, one of the places that I have a lot of interests in.

Watching the movie, it gave me the impression that I'm watching some Asian movies like those from Wong Kar Wai, every scene seems carefully laid out and the pace although slow at times, never did go to the point of boredom, there's always something interesting to see on screen. And I can't mention this film without mentioning the person primarily responsible for creating it - Sofia Coppola. A promising young director indeed.

After finishing the movie, the only feeling lingering on my mind was intense poignant, but also kinda like a fantasy ride. In fact I think its like a story of two people meeting and finding love in a fantasy world only to realise in the end that they would eventually have to return to their own reality.

I guess having to cope with the harshness of reality, sometimes even just a fantasy is good enough for some of us :-)
